The Microbiological Resources Research Institute at Pusan National University was established in 2004 for the purpose of conducting basic research on microbial resources. Microbial resources are essential for various fields such as food, chemistry, medicine, health, and the environment. In order to efficiently utilize these resources, basic research on microbial resources is necessary. To utilize microbial resources in line with new paradigms, it was necessary to overcome existing fixed ideas in terms of concepts and research methods. Thus, Pusan National University established the Microbiological Resources Research Institute as the center of this research, requiring a new research paradigm.
This institute is operated by professors, research professors, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students who use microbial resources as experimental subjects within Pusan National University. The institute is also collaborating with research teams from universities and local industries in the Busan-Gyeongnam region to focus on discovering and applying new microbial resources. In particular, the institute was certified as the only norovirus testing agency in the Busan-Gyeongnam region in 2009 and is currently providing consulting and management guidance on the difficulties of food and environmental related small and medium-sized enterprises in the region.
Today, we live in an era where microbes have a significant impact on health, environment, and economy across society. The constant emergence of new and mutant microbes and resulting disease outbreaks threaten public health, cause social anxiety, and even paralyze economic activities. In this era, this research institute aims to contribute to the health and hygiene of local water resources and food companies and contribute to the development of basic and applied sciences in the field of microbiology in the local community.
Thank you.
