This division focuses on securing and developing new microbial resources for practical applications. Research areas include:
- Use of microbial resources for wastewater treatment and environmental pollution control
- Acquisition and research of useful microbes for fermented foods, as well as the search for new medicinal and useful polysaccharides derived from microbial resources
Research Division 3: Pathogenic Microbial Resources
This division studies the biological characteristics of various pathogens and molecular mechanisms of pathogenicity. Research areas include:
- Investigation of the biological characteristics and pathogenic mechanisms of hepatitis viruses and intestinal infectious bacteria
- Study of immunological characteristics following bacterial infections and development of vaccines for prevention
- Search for new substances to inhibit the growth or virulence of pathogens.
